Bürstner Motorhome Insurance
cover for a German-built motorhome, whether supplied here or brought over from the Continent
Cover for a Bürstner motorhome, built in Germany within a large European group. The steering position, how the vehicle arrived in the UK and where it is kept all feed into the rating alongside the value.
- Built in Germany
- Sold across Europe
- Steering position is declared
- FCA authorised and regulated
Quick answerBürstner builds in Germany and belongs to one of the largest leisure vehicle groups in Europe. Vehicles reach the UK both through dealers here and privately, and the difference shows at the quote: steering position, specification and how the vehicle is documented all get asked about. Tell us which yours is and where it is kept, and specialist UK brokers can come back with quotes.

- Say which yours is

The basics
The Bürstner Facts That Reach the Premium
The questions are ordinary; the answers need care. Establishing exactly which specification you own is what makes everything after it accurate.
The vehicle itself
Make, model, year and berth.
What it is worth
Replacement cost today.
Where it is kept
A drive, a yard or a graded site.
Security fitted
Alarm, immobiliser, tracker, locks.
How far it goes
An honest annual distance.
Who drives it
Owners and anybody else permitted.
How it works
Between the Enquiry and the Bürstner Figure
It is a quick form. The care goes into the value and the annual mileage, because those are the fields an underwriter reads first.
Give the vehicle details
Make, model, year and berth.
Name the storage arrangement
It does more than owners expect.
Describe how it is used
Weekends away, long tours, rallies, a seasonal pitch or European trips.
Compare properly
Replacement basis, mileage limit, excess.
What it covers
What Answers When a Bürstner Is Damaged
The road sections you would recognise from a car policy, plus the habitation cover that answers for the living area and what is kept in it.
| Section | Where it sits | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Accidental damage | Comprehensive | The section that answers for a Bürstner motorhome |
| Theft and attempted theft | Included | Conditioned on security and storage |
| Storm, flood and weather | Included | A frequent claim on a parked vehicle |
| Contents and equipment | A separate limit | Awning gear, cycles, electronics |
| Personal effects | Optional on many policies | Worth pricing if you tour long |
| European touring | Declared in advance | Usually with a day limit |
| New for old replacement | Age dependent | Ask where the cut-off falls |
Steering position is a declared detail. A left-hand drive vehicle is perfectly insurable, but it is rated as what it is. Telling the insurer at the quote costs nothing; letting them find out after a claim can cost a great deal.
What it leaves out
Where Bürstner Cover Stops Short
The cover answers for sudden damage. What follows sits outside it, and the list is short enough to read properly.
Damp, rot and gradual ingress
The commonest reason a habitation claim fails.
Everyday wear and fading
Not sudden, so not insured.
Theft where the conditions were not met
Devices, keys and site grade all count.
Contents left unattended outside
Ask what the limit actually is.
Letting, hire or business use
Declare it or it sits outside the cover.
Gradual water ingress
The commonest reason a habitation claim is refused.
The range
Bürstner Variants Seen on UK Pitches
The range runs from compact conversions to large coachbuilt and A-class vehicles, and which end you are at changes the value considerably.
Van conversions
Compact, easier to store.
Coachbuilt models
The core of the range.
A-class vehicles
Top of the value range.
Family layouts
More berths, more to replace.
Imported examples
Often left-hand drive.
Used vehicles
Where the value is established.

Who it suits
Who Ends Up Buying a Bürstner
Owners here are usually people who shopped across Europe rather than only in British showrooms, and many of them tour abroad regularly.
Continental tourers
Long trips abroad.
Touring couples
The usual buyer.
Owners of higher-value vehicles
Where agreed value matters.
Private importers
A different conversation.
Families needing space
Larger layouts.
Buyers of used examples
Value and history questions.

Right or left-hand drive
A Bürstner Kept at Home vs One in Storage
Steering position is the practical dividing line, and it affects more than where you sit.
| Right-hand drive | Left-hand drive | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it was sold | Through a UK dealer | Bought on the Continent |
| Overtaking and access | Conventional here | Harder on UK roads |
| Documentation | Straightforward | More to evidence |
| Resale here | Wider market | Narrower market |

Cost
Why One Bürstner Prices Above Another
The vehicle, its value, the annual distance, where it is kept, the security fitted and the claims record. We do not print average premiums.
Why the specification is pinned down first
The same model is built for several markets, so two vehicles with the same name can differ in layout, equipment and steering. Settling that at the start is what makes the quote hold.
Why repair time is worth asking about
Habitation parts come through the group rather than off a shelf here. That does not change whether a claim is paid, but it does change how long the vehicle is off the road while it is put right.

Store it behind a barrier
One of the strongest levers.

Limited mileage terms price well.
Value it for replacement
Not for what you paid.
The conditions
Four Terms Written Into a Bürstner Policy
A short list, but the one that matters. An insurer will look at these first if you ever claim on a Bürstner motorhome.
Fit the devices and set them
Theft claims turn on this more than anything.
Keep the mileage honest
An estimate that drifts is worth correcting.
Declare a change of storage
Before it happens, not after.
Keep the habitation check up to date
It will not create cover, but it protects one.

FAQs
Bürstner Motorhome Insurance FAQs
Answers on storage, security, damp, mileage limits and European touring.
Where are these motorhomes built?
In Germany, within one of the largest leisure vehicle groups in Europe. Vehicles reach the UK both through dealers here and privately from the Continent, and the two routes differ at the quote.
Can I insure a left-hand drive one?
Yes. It is a rated detail rather than an obstacle, and specialist brokers deal with them routinely. What matters is declaring it rather than leaving the insurer to discover it.
Does a German build cost more to repair?
Habitation parts are sourced from the Continent, which can lengthen a repair rather than change what is paid. It is worth asking what a policy does while the vehicle waits.
How is a used one valued?
On what an equivalent would cost to replace here. These hold their value well, so a figure carried over from an earlier renewal is likely to be short.
Is an agreed value worth having?
On an older or unusual specification it usually is. It fixes the settlement figure in advance rather than leaving a vehicle with few UK comparables to be assessed afterwards.
Will a UK dealer service it?
Group dealers generally will, and independent habitation engineers are widely available. Keeping the annual check up to date matters more than where it is done.
Does touring abroad need declaring?
Yes, usually with a cap on the number of days in a policy year. Owners of Continental marques tend to travel a good deal, so check the figure against your plans.
What security is expected?
An alarm and immobiliser at minimum, with a tracker common at the higher end of the range. Whatever you declare becomes a condition of the theft cover.
Why is a limited mileage policy so common on these?
Because a motorhome is used for a few weeks a year rather than every day. Agreeing a realistic annual distance is what lets the price reflect that, and going a long way past it is a disclosure problem rather than a small detail.
What do insurers ask about first?
The vehicle, its value and where it is kept. Security comes next, then who drives it and how far it goes. Storage and mileage carry more weight here than on an everyday car.
Will a claim on the car affect this policy?
It can, because insurers usually ask about claims across all your vehicles. Declare them, since an undeclared claim is a straightforward route to a refused one later.
Is an awning covered as standard?
Frequently not. Awnings take the worst of the wind and are one of the more common claims, so it is worth checking whether yours is included and at what limit.
Do I have to set the alarm every time?
Yes, if you declared it, and that includes a single night on the drive. The condition applies whenever the vehicle is left, not only when it is in long-term storage.
Is a storage site better than home?
Usually for the premium, though not always for convenience. A graded site with gates, cameras and barriers reduces the theft exposure, and insurers price that difference.
Will an older motorhome be refused?
Rarely. Age changes the settlement basis rather than the availability of cover, and an agreed value is the usual route once new for old no longer applies. What narrows is the number of insurers interested, which is a reason to compare rather than a reason to worry.
What about the contents I leave on board?
There is a limit, and it is separate from the vehicle. Cycles, awning equipment and electronics add up quickly, so check the figure against what you actually leave in it.
